It is important to deep cleanse your paintwork at least once a year. This will remove light oxidation, minor staining and the inevitable build up or waxes and silicones. After an application of Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner followed by a polish and wax, your paint colour will be richer and its gloss deeper.
ScratchX uses diminishing abrasive technology to give you the best chance of removing light scratches and swirls by hand without scouring your paint finish. If a scratch is deep enough that it can be felt with your fingernail then it is likely that it will need to be removed by a professional.
After you’ve washed and dried your paintwork run your fingertips over the surface. It is likely that you will feel small imperfections. These are contaminants bonded to the paint that cannot be removed with washing alone. Typically these would be tree sap, remnants of bird lime, industrial fallout or even paint overspray. Clay is a fast and safe way to remove contaminants that have bonded to your paintwork which can’t be shifted by washing alone. Meguiar’s recommend that you tear about 1/3rd of the clay bar off and work it in your hands until soft. Mould the clay to a 5cm disc, spray the Quik Detailer onto clean, dry paintwork and glide the clay through the lubricant using finger tip pressure. It will remove all of the bonded contaminant, giving you a finish as smooth as glass. View Meguiar's Clay Products
All Meguiar’s formulations recommend the use of a deep pile Microfibre for removing product residues. Microfibre towels are much more absorbent than an old rag or t-shirt, and will deliver a streak-free finish much quicker. Old rags and t-shirts may will essentially push the product around on the paint surface and also could be contaminated with all micro particles which can cause scratching on your paint surface. A Microfibre will reduce the risk of scratches caused by random particles.
When applying a cleaner, polish or wax, imagine you’re rubbing lotion onto your skin. Like hand lotion, you should only apply as much as the surface can absorb at one time. Any more will dry as excess residue, which in essence is just waste. Most users have found Meguiar’s products to be much richer than those they have used before.
It’s the washing process that inflicts most ‘swirls’ or light circular scratches to your paint. This is because tiny particles can get trapped between the face of a sponge and the paint surface. By hosing down the paint work first and using a wash mitt with a deep pile, these particles will be absorbed into the pile and will consequently do a lot less damage to your paint. Also using a grit guard in the bottom of your bucket to remove any loose dirt from the mitt will help. MEGUIARS AG1015 LAMBSWOOL MITT WITH BUG REMOVER, MEGUIARS X3002EU ULTRA PLUSH WASH MITT.
Not if you use a good quality car wash shampoo. All Meguiar’s car washes will safely remove traffic film and contaminants without damaging the protective wax coating. Harsher detergents will strip polish and wax from the paint and significantly reduce the life of the wax protection. To help your wax protection last longer you can use Meguiar's Quik Wax while drying your car to help prevent water spots and boost the protection.
ScratchX has been specifically formulated for the removal of swirls and fine scratches. Although Paint Cleaner will also help remove fine scratches its real strength is in the removal of paintwork stains and oxidation.
First, determine what type of wheels you have in order to use the correct wheel cleaner. For “factory” painted or coated wheels, Meguiar's Ultimate All Wheel Cleaner, or Meguiar’s Hot Rims All Wheel & Tire Cleaner is the best solution. For aluminum or anodized wheels Meguiar’s Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel Cleaner.
If you're not sure of your wheel type we suggest contacting the wheel manufacturer or using Meguiar's Ultimate All Wheel Cleaner. Our Meguiar's Ultimate All Wheel Cleaner is the latest in wheel cleaning technology, acid free and pH balanced means it is safe to use on all wheel and brake finishes including polished alloys, multi-piece, chrome and carbon ceramic. Deep cleaning formula turns brake dust purple and road grime brown as it gently removes stubborn contaminants. It certainly takes the guessing away from which product to use.
All of our wax products need to dry before removal. When you can make a clean swipe with your finger (typically up to 10 minutes depending on weather and ambient temperature) the product is ready for the final wipe down. There is no maximum time that the wax can be left on the paintwork, so it is usually good practice to apply wax to the whole vehicle before starting to wipe off.
These products all need to before removed before they fully dry. They should be applied to relatively small areas e.g. a door or half a bonnet, and removed before moving on to the next panel to be treated.
Meguiar's polishes such as the Deep Crystal Polish and the Ultimate Polish are made of a blend of oils which are absorbed by the paint, much like your skin would absorb a moisturiser. The polishing oils create a deep wet-look gloss, yet offer no protection.
This high gloss then needs to be sealed using a wax product. Many of the Meguiar's waxes now contain some polishing oils which complement the Ultimate Polish while adding a layer of protection against UV rays and other environmental elements.
